Questions in reported speech

What to watch out for

• Statement word order: subject first, then verb (… where I lived, not did I live).
• No do/does/did: The auxiliary verb disappears, backshift remains (Do you like? → if I liked).
• yes/no questions use if or whether; W-questions keep their question word (where, what, why, who, when …).
• will-future: will becomes would ("Will you come?" → He asked if I would come.).
• Introduce with ask: She asked …
